A:Bring your personal scrapbook or crafting materials. (See “Crafts” tab for scrapbooking equipment that’s provided for you). Coordinate and bring any food items you will want to prepare, also beverages and snacks. We provide fresh sheets and towels and a complete kitchen for your culinary pleasures!
Q: Do you have wireless internet?
A:We have internet cable in the main house (for your laptops) and wireless in the crafting workshop, along with a computer and printer for your journaling needs.
Q: Are pets allowed at Dory’s Place?
A: While we love our 4 legged friends, due to some guest allergies, we cannot allow it.
A: Dory’s Place is a non-smoking facility, however you are free to smoke on the patio’s outside where ashtrays will be provided.
Q: Do you provide cleaning services?
A: We will have the house spit spot for you upon arrival w/clean sheets and towels. Due to the potential of a group coming in behind you, we would ask if you would please strip your beds at the end of your stay and start the dishwasher. This will facilitate a quicker turnaround for the next group. We greatly appreciate it AND your group organizer will be mailed a coupon worth $50 off your next booking! Value gets its rewards! Thank you!
Q: Do I have to be a scrapbooker?
A:Absolutely not! While Dory’s Place is set up to accommodate many types of crafters, quilters, knitters, stampers, beaders and the like, there is always a comfy spot in a sunny room to nestle in and read a book, watch a movie or journal. All are welcome!
Q: What are the work areas like?
A: There is a minimum of 5’ by 2.5’ of work area for each individual. Each work area has a task light as well as overhead lighting. There are comfortable leather chairs, some with arms, some without. Plenty of large windows make the space full of light.
Q: What kind of sleeping arrangements do you have?
A: There are four bedrooms that will sleep 12. The master Scrappers Bedroom has one queen bed, and one trundle (2 twins); The Quilters bedroom has a bunk bed with one full and one twin; The Stampers bedroom has 3 twins and the Knitters bedroom has a queen. There is also a queen sofa sleeper in the living room, a full sofa sleeper in the den/office and a full size futon in the basement.
Q: What if I’m a novice at scrapbooking?
A:I’m happy to report there is a first rate scrapbook store in Winona, Scrapper’s Haven. Katrina Volkert is the owner and she is available for classes (for a fee) with enough notice, as well as carries a large assortment of materials that can be purchased at her store. The store phone is (507) 452-1740 or check out her website at www.scrappers-haven.com.
Q: What else is there to do in Winona?
A:Log onto the Visit Winona website: www.visitwinona.com to find fun things to see and do in Winona! It has everything from sightseeing, to shopping, horseback riding and eating. Some of the favorite things people like to do while here is to go up to the Garvin Heights Overlook. A winding road takes you up to the top of the bluffs where the view is spectacular for miles! The Minnesota Marine Art Museum is a fairly new addition to Winona and the artwork is breathtaking and moves the spirit. The Great River Shakespeare Fest is always a wonderful experience, as is the Beethoven Fest, both are during the summer months of June/July. New to Winona is a world class triathlon, using bikes, running and swimming as the sports of choice. A walk, run or bike around Lake Winona (actually two lakes) will log about 5 miles of exercise. If you were born in Winona, you may be a “river rat”, that is, spent many hours on the Mississippi River, waterskiing, jet skiing or just laying on a sandbar. There are houseboats for rent in the harbors around Winona, and the fishing is good here. Hopefully you will find the people in Winona friendly and helpful. Enjoy your discoveries!
Q: Do you have a waiting list?
A: Yes, if the date you are hoping for is booked and the availability changes, callbacks will be on a first come first served basis.
